Better than expectedJul 24, 2009
By Paul D. Langley I really wanted to hate this CD. I tried to find reasons to rip it apart and say how horrible it is. After all, it is the near the start of Elvis' long string of movies, and it does not feature his best work.
But I found this oddly compelling. It is not the best music in the world. Despite that, it seeps into you. The songs are hypnotic even though most of the tracks sound like fragments, incomplete pieces that someone intends to finish later. Yet it is very listenable.
This is the merger of 1 movie EP with 1 one standard (at that time) short soundtrack into a single disk. The overall effect is a music that slips in and out of your conscousness, sometimes in the forefront, sometimes in the background. The standout hit "Return to Sender" does not jump out at you, it sneaks up on you, and you find yourself humming or singing along before the music drops into the background. The effect reminds me of Brian Eno's ambient records. And I never thought I would be comparing Elvis to Eno in a review.
On the downside, I don't know when I am ever going to play this disk again. It is not right for a party, or for active contempletion, or for any purpose I can think of. Yet I want to give it a chance to sneak up on me some more.
Let's give it 3 stars, put it in a changer on continous play, and hope than when it's turn to play comes around the heaven are lined up right.

Couple solid soundtracks for Elvis fansJun 19, 2007
By CJ Gish
"CJ"
These two soundtracks were some of Elvis' solid material from the early 60s when he still cared about the vocals and before things started getting really, really corny script wise. "Kid Galahad" offers gems in "This Is Living", "Home Is Where The Heart Is", "I Got Lucky" and "A Whistling Tune" -- all in all, some great foot tappers and strong ballads.
In "Girls! Girls! Girls", you get a few more duds, but also some strong songs in "Return To Sender", "I Don't Wanna Be Tied", "Thanks To The Rolling Sea", and the title track. Other than that, there are some songs that have some things to be desired.
Overall, it's a fairly solid combination of soundtracks that I would recommend.

Not a bad setJun 17, 2007
By A Fan This includes the music from two of Elvis' movies from 1962, Kid Galahad and Girls! Girls! Girls! The soundtrack for Girls! Girls! Girls! was a big hit in the US reaching number 3 on the album chart and was certified GOLD by the RIAA. No soundtrack album was released for Kid Galahad but an EP was which was also certified GOLD. This CD includes one of Elvis' signature songs, Return to Sender, which was a huge hit worldwide. It peaked at number 2 on the US singles chart and was certified PLATINUM. It's flip side, Where Do You Come From, was a minor hit just cracking the top 100. King of the Whole Wide World was a modest hit reaching 30 on the US singles chart. All in all, this is not a bad collection.
Let the Good Times RollAug 28, 2011
By Classic TV Fan The CD features soundtracks from both Elvis movies Kid Galahad and Girls, Girls, Girls. The sound qaulity on all 21 songs is just great. Although Kid Galahad has better songs overall, Girls. Girls, Girls still has some enoyable tunes also. If youre a fan of Elvis Presley, and are thinking about collecting his movie soundtracks,it's a very worthwhile purchase, even though there are better movie soundtrakcs to own(Girl Happy, Viva as Vegas, Spinout, Blue Hawaii, G.I. Blues etc).
Good but not greatFeb 27, 2011
By Floyd J. Peeler I love the King and saw Kid Galahad when it first came out and loved the music. I ordered this CD because it was the only CD with the original music. and while I like some of the tracks from Girls Girls Girls, the songs from that movie were mostly disappointing. But overall, I'm glad I bought this CD.
